Westlake Dermatology is the first cosmetic dermatology practice in Texas to offer the Excel V™ for the treatment of leg veins, facial redness, sun spots, scars and skin rejuvenation.
The Cutera® Excel V™ is used to treat a variety of vascular conditions. Using a unique high power green laser, it precisely treats visible vessels, broken capillaries, spider veins and skin discoloration. The Excel V also has a longer wavelength (1064nm) laser for targeting purple leg veins, periorbital blue veins and deeper vascular structures. Using the two wavelengths, the Excel V heats and eliminates targeted blood vessels and pigmented spots, ultimately restoring normal skin tone and color.
How does Excel V work?
The laser light is absorbed by abnormal blood vessels in the skin, which heats and eliminates the vessels, ultimately restoring normal skin tone and color. The Excel V uses a unique cooling technology that enables higher doses of the treatment directly to the affected area, with less pain than traditional laser systems.
Which conditions will Excel V treat?
The Excel V is FDA-cleared for the following conditions.
- Spider veins
- Leg veins
- Rosacea and diffuse redness
- Facial telangiectasia
- Port wine stains
- Sun spots
- Poikiloderma
- Scars
- Hemangiomas
- Cherry angiomas
- Large pores

The Excel V is an ideal treatment for aging, sun-damaged skin that is showing a combination of red and brown discoloration as well as textural unevenness. A global treatment that targets all of these signs of aging can yield clearer, more youthful glowing skin.
Treatment with the Excel V laser can be customized to each patient’s unique skin condition and can be adjusted to treat different depths and sizes, from superficial blemishes to deep vascular birthmarks.
While it does not have an FDA indication for it, Excel V has also been used for the treatment of toenail fungus. Patients receive a series of 5 to 7 treatments spaced approximately 4 to 6 weeks apart.
