Melody Vander Straten, M.D.

Melody Vander Straten, M.D. photo.Melody Vander Straten, M.D. received her Doctor of Medicine degree at Texas A&M University Health Science Center in 1994. Following her degree, Dr. Vander Straten completed a Family Practice Internship at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida; a Clinical Research Fellowship in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston; a Clinical Trials Fellowship in the Department of Dermatology at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio; and a Dermatology Residency at Case Western University / University Hospitals of Cleveland.

From 1995 to 1999, Dr. Vander Straten served as General Medical Officer for the United States Navy. She received two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals in 1996 and 1997, as well as a Surface Warfare Medical Officer Pin for serving on the USS SPRUANCE in 1997.

Dr. Vander Straten has conducted extensive research, published articles, and presented in the areas of psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and viral infections. She brought her expertise to Westlake Dermatology & Cosmetic Surgery in 2005, where she leads the Round Rock location providing both general and cosmetic dermatological care.

Dr. Vander Straten is Board Certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, the Society for Investigative Dermatology, Interferon and Cytokine Research, the International Society for Antiviral Research, and Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.
