Silhouette InstaLift is a non-surgical procedure that is approved by the FDA to both tighten and lift the mid-face. InstaLift is an ideal procedure for minimizing both marionette lines (lines that run vertically from the corners of the mouth to the chin) and nasolabial folds (creases running from the side of the nose to the corners of the mouth). InstaLift also addresses volume loss by stimulating collagen production, helping the skin to look plumper and more youthful.
What is InstaLift?
The InstaLift procedure uses special biodegradable sutures to reposition drooping mid-face tissue to a more youthful appearing position. The sutures, made from Polyglycolide/L-lactide (PLGA), hold bonded tissue in place underneath the surface of the skin, similar to scaffolding under a building being constructed. InstaLift sutures also spur the production of collagen to aid in healthy skin renewal. Over time the sutures naturally become absorbed by the body.
The InstaLift procedure is virtually painless and provides immediate results, without the necessary recovery time required by surgical procedures.
How is Silhouette InstaLift performed?
InstaLift procedures do not require sedation or general anesthesia. Instead, local anesthesia is used to numb the area and keep the patient comfortable. A needle is then used to puncture targeted sites in the mid-cheek and in front of the ear. Silhouette InstaLift sutures are then placed beneath the skin and sagging tissue and skin is repositioned to minimize creases and wrinkles.
How long does an InstaLift treatment take?
While the exact treatment time can differ based on the patient’s desired degree of lift, InstaLift appointments typically take about 90 minutes to complete.
How much lift can I expect?
The exact degree of lift each patient realizes can differ based on their unique skin characteristics (specifically skin laxity) as well as the number of sutures placed. Silhouette InstaLift is ideal for treating early to moderate marionette lines and nasolabial folds.
How long will the results last?
The results of Silhouette InstaLift typically last for about 18 months.
What should I do before an Silhouette InstaLift procedure?
InstaLift patients will need to refrain from taking aspirin, NSAID’s, and other blood thinners for one week before their treatment. Alcohol should also be avoided for a week or so before the procedure. The use of arnica supplements, both before and after the treatment, can help speed up the healing process and minimize bruising.
What should I expect after the procedure?
Silhouette InstaLift does not require major downtime (recovery time). Minor swelling, redness, and bruising post treatment is common, all of which typically resolve in a 3-5 days. Any side effects of InstaLift can be easily camouflaged with makeup, which can be worn 48 hours after treatment.
Who is a good candidate for InstaLift?
If you have areas of mild to moderate laxity in the nasolabial and marionette lines, and if when you slightly raise the cheek behind these areas the lines improve, then InstaLift may be an effective alternative for you.
InstaLift vs. Facelift
InstaLift is not a facelift. It can provide temporary lift and support to the jowls and nasolabial folds, but unlike a facelift, the result only last 18 months. Since no skin is removed, only mild to moderate laxity can be improved.
InstaLift vs Threadlift
Threadlifting, such as with the Aptos threads, used permanent sutures to create a lift. However, since the sutures were permanent many worked their way out of the skin over time, causing swelling and infection. For this reason the FDA removed threadlifts from the market. InstaLift is FDA approved for the face, and uses temporary, slowly dissolving sutures that also stimulate collagen synthesis, producing both lift and fill in the areas they are placed. Although there is still a risk of extrusion, it is much less likely than with threadlifting.
