Avéli Cellulite Treatment

Cellulite is a common condition, experienced by 80-90% of women. The puckered, dimpled skin appearance occurs mainly on the buttocks and thighs. While age or excess fat can make cellulite worse, it’s common for even young, lean women to experience cellulite.

Avéli, a new FDA-approved cellulite treatment, addresses cellulite with a precise, minimally invasive in-office procedure.

WHAT CAUSES CELLULITE?

Beneath the skin, there is a subcutaneous layer containing fat pockets. These pockets of fat are separated by fibrous tissue, called septa bands, connecting the skin to deeper structures. Over time, the connective tissue bands can become tight and inflexible, causing small projections of fat cells from these pockets to protrude unevenly into the dermis. This results in skin with a dimpled appearance, called cellulite.

As skin becomes looser and thinner with age, cellulite becomes more visible. And while weight gain may make cellulite worse, it’s also still prevalent in lean women. Tight septa bands push even the smallest pockets of fat upward towards the skin’s surface, emphasizing cellulite’s puckered appearance.

While diet and exercise can certainly play a part in reducing fat, unfortunately it does not affect the structure beneath the skin causing cellulite. This explains why weight loss or muscle gain is not always a solution for cellulite.

Cellulite appears most commonly on the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. It is far more common in women than in men. A large number of women are affected by cellulite after puberty.  Heredity, hormones, and dramatic weight change can also have an impact on cellulite.

WHAT IS AVÉLI?

Avéli is the first cellulite treatment with the ability to identify and precisely release the septa bands that lead to dimpling on the buttocks and thighs. When the targeted bands are released, skin appears smoother. This simple in-office treatment is minimally invasive and has the ability to provide significant results in as little as a single treatment.

HOW DOES AVÉLI WORK?

Avéli uses a hand-held device which is expertly guided by a trained medical provider. The device slides between the skin and underlying muscle to seek and release the precise tight septa bands that cause cellulite dimples.

Avéli’s unique feedback mechanism sets it apart from past septa-band targeting treatments. During the procedure, Avéli providers receive tactile feedback indicating when the specific fibrous bands pulling down on the skin have indeed been severed. This allows for greater precision and enhanced results within just a single session.

HOW IS AN AVÉLI TREATMENT PERFORMED?

During a treatment, the provider inserts the Avéli device underneath the skin, gently guiding it below cellulite dimples.

As the device passes a tight septa band, a unique hook catches the problematic fibrous tissue. The provider can confirm which bands are indeed causing a dimple as they can feel and see the band pulling the dimple downward.

Once the tight septa band is hooked, a button is pressed to release a blade which cuts the band. The provider can then immediately see if the dimple has been released, or if another band must be located.

Avéli’s efficiency allows for the entire buttocks and thigh area to be treated in one single in-office session.

IS AVÉLI PAINFUL?

Prior to an Avéli treatment, the area is numbed with local anesthesia. During the procedure, the patient shouldn’t feel pain or discomfort. After the procedure there may be some soreness, mild bruising and swelling.

WHAT DOES AVÉLI TREAT?

Avéli solely focuses on correcting cellulite dimpling. The treatment cannot tighten loose skin or remove unwanted fat. Avéli can, however, be used in conjunction with other treatments such as CoolSculpting or CoolTone as part of a comprehensive treatment plan to address multiple types of concerns.

Avéli treats each cellulite dimple separately to remove puckering and create smoother skin. It does not, however, address general textural issues related to loose or thin skin. Additionally, Avéli does not remove fat.

IS AVÉLI FDA APPROVED?

Avéli was approved by the FDA in 2021 for the reduction of cellulite in the buttocks and thighs.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR AN AVÉLI PROCEDURE?

The best candidates for Avéli are healthy, adult women who are at or near their ideal body weight. Candidates with minimal skin laxity and little to no excess fat in the buttocks and thigh area will realize the best results.

HOW SOON ARE RESULTS REALIZED?

Some patients may notice improvement of dimpling immediately following the procedure, as dimpling can be rapidly counteracted by cutting the septa bands. Results will be more apparent, however, once bruising and swelling has faded, which can take up to 30 days.

HOW MANY TREATMENTS ARE REQUIRED?

Avéli is designed to provide results after a single procedure. Your provider can treat the entire buttocks and thigh area in approximately a one-hour visit.

HOW MUCH RECOVERY TIME IS NEEDED?

There is little to no downtime required after an Avéli treatment. Most patients in the clinical study drove themselves to and from their appointments and returned to their regular daily activities within 24-48 hours.

Your physician may recommend refraining from strenuous activity for at least one week to allow for a reduction in swelling. The tiny insertion points may leak a clear or pink fluid until they fully heal, which takes approximately 7-10 days.
