What is cellulite?

Beneath the skin, there is a subcutaneous layer containing fat pockets.  These pockets of fat are separated by tissue bands connecting the skin and muscle.  Over time, the connective tissue bands can become tight and inflexible, causing small projections of fat cells from these pockets to protrude unevenly into the dermis.  This results in skin with a dimpled appearance, called cellulite.

While diet and exercise can certainly play a part in reducing fat, unfortunately it does not affect the structure beneath the skin causing cellulite.

Cellulite appears most commonly on the thighs, buttocks and abdomen. It is far more common in women than in men.  A vast majority of women are affected by cellulite after puberty.  Heredity, hormones, and dramatic weight change can also have an impact on cellulite.

What is Cellulaze?

Most anti-cellulite procedures apply treatment superficially, above the skin. Cellulaze is the first and only minimally invasive cellulite procedure that treats the fibrous bands beneath the skin, while also thickening and adding elasticity to the skin.

During a single laser-assisted procedure, Cellulaze allows the physician to pinpoint the dimpled pockets of herniated fat and thermally disconnect the fibrous band of connective tissue that traps the fat.  At the same time, clinical studies show that the treatment builds collagen and elastin in the treatment area, thus improving the skin quality. The result is smoother, re-contoured skin.

Cellulaze is backed by extensive clinical data ensuring a safe and effective treatment.  In a single treatment, Cellulaze delivers results that last.  Studies found:

  • A single Cellulaze treatment improved the appearance of cellulite for one year or more.
  • 93% of patients surveyed were satisfied or very satisfied with their results one year post-procedure, and all would recommend the Cellulaze treatment to a friend.
  • Cellulaze was shown to increase skin thickness by 25%, and skin elasticity by 29%, even after one year.  Thicker, more elastic skin can diminish the appearance of cellulite.

What should be expected during a Cellulaze treatment?

After your physician marks the areas of cellulite to be treated, a couple of tiny incisions (about the size of the tip of a pen) will be made.  The Cellulaze laser fiber is threaded through a small cannula (tube) and inserted through the tiny incisions.  The laser fiber allows the physician to both release the fibrous connective bands that pull the skin down creating the cellulite dimples and stimulate collagen production to increase the skin’s thickness and elasticity for a smoother look.  A local anesthesia is used during the treatment, so the patient remains awake during the procedure.

After the treatment, the patient will wear a compression garment and may experience some bruising and discomfort.  However, patients are able to return to normal activities after a day or two and can resume more strenuous exercise after one to two weeks.  Results continue to improve over three to twelve months after the treatment.

Who is a good candidate for Cellulaze?

Cellulaze is an ideal treatment option for people who are not significantly overweight but have mild to moderate cellulite on their thighs or buttocks.
