Telehealth

Telehealth appointments are only available for patients in Texas.

New and established patients can connect with us from the comfort of home for routine office visits and cosmetic consultations.  Receive a diagnosis, treatment plan, and prescription electronically submitted to your pharmacy – all through a virtual dermatology visit.

Feedback from one of our patients after a virtual appointment:  “Love Dr. Rhodes! In this time of uncertainty and change, (corona virus) she was able to diagnose the cause of my son’s rash in less than two minutes by viewing it through an app on my phone. She is personable, always smiling, and is a great diagnostician!  Dr. Rhodes explains things thoroughly and genuinely cares about her patients.” – Katie A.

HOW TO GET STARTED

1. Schedule Your Appointment.

Book online or call us at (888) 570-3376 to schedule your Telehealth appointment at a specific date and time with your selected provider.

Upon scheduling your Telehealth appointment, you will receive two emails from us:  one will have a link to access your patient portal; the other will have a link to access your Telehealth session.  If you book your appointment online, you will also receive an email confirmation.

* For new patients:  If you are new to Westlake Dermatology, we ask that you e-sign our Office Policies & review the HIPAA Notice of Privacy.

2. Access Your Patient Portal.

Using the email you receive to access your patient portal or using the link below, you will need to log in to enter or update your health history and account information prior to your Telehealth appointment.  If you have difficulty accessing your portal, please call (888) 570-3376 or email [email protected] for assistance.

* Note:  If you login to your portal from a desktop computer that has a webcam (web browser Chrome v46 or newer; Mozilla Firefox v42 or newer), you can conduct your visit directly through the portal and skip step #3 below.

3. Log into PocketPatient™ App

From the email you receive to access your Telehealth link, download and install the PocketPatient app accordingly (or if already downloaded, the link will directly connect you to the App in your device).

Follow the instructions in your email to log in or create an account in the PatientPocket app.  The Westlake Dermatology URL that you will need to enter is westlake.ema.md.

At the time of your appointment, you will receive a pop-up notification through the app that it’s time to join your provider for the visit.

* Note, your visit will not appear in PocketPatient until the provider initiates the visit at your scheduled appointment time.  Be assured the visit is scheduled and no further action is need. You will receive a pop-up notification from your provider when you can join the visit.

TELEHEALTH Q&A

Q:  What type of appointments can be performed using Telehealth?

A:  Ideal issues to be addressed using Telehealth include cases of acne, rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, skin discoloration, rashes, melasma, spot checks, and itchy skin.  Cosmetic consultations can also be done via Telehealth.  Urgent medical and surgical appointments must still be scheduled for an in-person appointment.  If you have an emergency, call 911.

Q:  What’s the cost of a Telehealth appointment?

A:  Telehealth visits are covered by Medicare and many insurance plans (check your specific plan for coverage).  If the patient is uninsured or their insurance denies the claim, the fee is $75 for the visit.

Q:  Can minors participate in Telehealth?

A:  All Telehealth patients need to have their own unique email address, so as long as that’s the case, they can participate.  A parent or guardian must be present for all Telehealth visits at this time.

Q:  Can I choose which doctor I want to see via Telehealth?

A:  You may schedule your Telehealth appointment with the physician or provider of your choice.  Please note that some of our providers may not offer the option of Telehealth appointments.

Q:  What if I need to cancel?

A:  Call our office immediately if you need to cancel or reschedule.  We require 2 hours of notice for cancelled Telehealth visits.

Q:  Who should I call if my provider is not available at my scheduled appointment time?

A:  If you allow push notifications on your device for the PocketPatient application, you should expect both a pop-up notification & email when your provider has initiated the meeting.  Once the provider initiates your video visit, the link will expire within 10 minutes if you do not join in. Please be sure to connect when you receive your notification. Call (888) 570-3376 if you experience any difficulties.

Q:  What type of device can I use for a Telehealth appointment?

A:  Telehealth visits can be conducted through the PocketPatient app on your iPhone (iOS 11 or newer), Android (Android 7 or newer), or web browser (Chrome v46 or newer; Mozilla Firefox v42 or newer).

Q:  Are there any additional resources to help?

A:  Yes!  PocketPatient has created some useful videos to help explain the process more visually.  Select the video below for more information:
