Juvederm Volux

With natural aging, the shape of the lower face can change over time. Genetics, thinner skin, and loss of soft tissue volume can all contribute to a more narrow or less defined jawline. As the jawline changes, marionette lines and jowls can seem more apparent.

Juvéderm Volux is a new hyaluronic-acid based injectable gel that is FDA approved to treat the jawline and chin area. Volux has a firmer, cohesive structure which provides a greater lift capacity compared to other fillers, making it an idea for creating a more chiseled, defined jawline.

What Kind of Results Are Possible with Juvéderm Volux?

Juvéderm Volux is specifically designed to treat the jawline. This hyaluronic-acid gel is injected deeply and close to the bone to enhance the structure of the lower jaw and chin area. Enhancing the jawline can address a variety of lower face concerns:

  • Adjusts overall facial proportions for a more youthful look
  • Enhances and defines the jawline for a stronger look
  • Can help recontour the face as part of a liquid facelift
  • Can treat a recessed chin or poorly defined jawline without surgery
  • Minimizes the appearance of jowls and folds in the lower face area

In clinical trials, nearly 70% of patients had improved jawline definition within 6 months of treatment, with 80% saying they would recommend treatment to a friend. At 12 months, over 80% of patients reported satisfaction with their results, and nearly 90% said they would recommend Volux to a friend.

Who Is an Ideal Candidate?

Juvéderm Volux is FDA approved for anyone over the age of 21 who is experiencing moderate to severe loss of jawline definition.

The treatment is ideal for patients seeking a natural-looking jawline enhancement, without the need for surgery. Those considering lower facial surgery may want to try using Volux before making a permanent enhancement.

Volux is not recommended for anyone with a history of adverse reactions to hyaluronic-acid fillers, or for those with a history of multiple, severe allergies.

How Is a Volux Treatment Performed?

Volux treatments are quick and relatively painless. In fact, patients can immediately return to normal daily activity after their treatment. The procedure begins with numbing of the treatment area via a local anesthetic. Next, Volux is injected into the target areas along the jawline and lower face contour.

Some patients notice immediate results, while others require multiple visits. Similar to other injectables, the number of injections and amount of filler used will depend the individual needs and goals of each patient.

Are Volux Injections Painful?

Volux is made of a hyaluronic acid gel and a small amount of lidocaine. Lidocaine is an anesthetic which helps make injections less painful. Some patients may experience some swelling or tightness post injection. This discomfort goes away quickly, typically within 24-48 hours.

Are Volux Results Permanent?

Like all hyaluronic based fillers, Volux is not permanent. Most patients report jawline improvement 6 months after their injections, with results lasting up to 1.5 years. Maintenance treatments performed every 9-12 months can prolong results over the long term.

What is Recovery Like?

Juvéderm Volux is minimally invasive and requires little to no downtime. Patients should avoid alcohol and smoking for at least 24 hours following the injection. Strenuous activity including vigorous exercise can typically resume 3 days after treatment. Many injectors will also recommend patients limit touching their face or applying pressure to the jawline for up to 2 weeks following injection.

Are There Side Effects?

The side effects of Juvéderm Volux are similar to those of any other injectable filler. The most commonly reported side effects are minor and include tenderness, discomfort, swelling, redness or bruising, and minor lumps, bumps or firmness at the injection site. These side effects tend to dissipate on their own within 2 weeks. Side effects are minimized, and results improved, when the procedure is performed by an experienced, board-certified injector.
