Robert J. Reese, DO, FISHRS

Robert J. Reese, D.O., FISHRS, has performed Hair Restoration procedures since 1999. As a Board Certified General Surgeon skilled in all aspects of the hair restoration process, including FUE and FUT procedures, Dr. Reese is well known and respected in the hair restoration community both nationally and internationally. Dr. Reese performs hair transplant surgeries on the scalp, eyebrows, mustache, sideburns, and beard. He has performed hair restoration procedures on all age, gender, and ethnic groups.

After graduating from Des Moines University Osteopathic Medical Center, Dr. Reese completed residencies in general surgery at Des Moines General Hospital and Meridia South Pointe Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a fellowship in vascular surgery at St. John Hospital & Medical Center in Detroit, Michigan.

Dr. Reese’s personal philosophy for hair restoration is that while there is an aesthetic component in the hair restoration process, the procedure is primarily reconstructive in nature. The patients suffering with hair loss are, therefore, made to feel whole again through the hair restoration process, and this brings great satisfaction and healing for the patients.

Several of Dr. Reese’s honors include serving as past President of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery (ABHRS), an organization committed to ethics and certification in the field. Additionally, Dr. Reese served as an Examining Physician for the ABHRS for many years. Based upon his contributions and service to the field, Dr. Reese was honored as a Fellow of the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery, (ISHRS), in its inaugural class of Fellows. While serving the ISHRS and ABHRS, Dr. Reese initiated the Morbidity & Mortality Conference, (M&M), held annually in conjunction with the ISHRS Annual Clinical Assembly, and served as the Inaugural M&M Conference Chair. The M&M Conference continues to be ranked among the highest rated offerings for physicians to attend to this day.

Dr. Reese has performed and published original research on the use of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) in conjunction with the hair restoration process dating back to 2006. He has presented lectures both nationally and internationally on the topic. He contributed a chapter on the use of PRP in the hair restoration process for the medical textbook, Hair Transplant 360, Volume 3, Editor: Samuel Lam, MD – 2014. Additionally, while serving his community performing vascular and general surgery, and as a surgical educator, Dr. Reese held the academic appointment, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the SUNY-Buffalo, New York, School of Medicine.

Perhaps his most important skill is Dr. Reese’s commitment to making patients feel comfortable during their hair restoration procedure. As he is known to say, “Nobody likes being the patient. But my team and I have the ability, nearly 100% of the time, to have you go home saying, ‘That was so much easier than I thought it would be.” The medical and technical team at Westlake Dermatology is committed to this standard.
