The American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), the world’s largest specialty association for facial plastic surgery, recently released its annual survey results for 2019. Demand Continues To Rise
- The demand for facial plastic surgery procedures increased by 6% compared to fiscal year 2018
- Non-surgical treatments like Botox and fillers also increased by 13%
Millennials Are On Board
- 73% of AAFPRS members cite a greater emphasis on preventive treatments for their patients in their 20’s and 30’s
- Rhinoplasty was the most common surgical procedure for patients under 34 years old
- Demand for Botox, fillers, and other minimally invasive procedures from patients under 30 has grown by 32% since 2016
Social Media Is Driving Demand
- 72% of surgeons say they’ve treated patients who sought cosmetic procedures to improve their selfies (up 15% from 2018)
Celebrity Influencers
- 84% of AAFPRS members said that celebrities impact their patients’ desire for cosmetic surgery
- Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner are cited as the most influential for women, while Brad Pitt and Bradley Cooper were deemed most influential for men
