Ali Shahbaz, MD

Ali Shahbaz, MD FRCPC, is a Board Certified Dermatologist who is a new transplant to Austin, Texas from Canada. He believes in patient-centered care with an emphasis in developing long-term therapeutic connections with his patients.

Dr. Shahbaz received his undergraduate of Honours in Bachelor of Medical Science at Western University. He then attended The University of Ottawa School of Medicine in Ottawa, Canada where he was also selected to be a varsity competitive rower. Being an advocate for skin and sun safety of other competitive outdoor athletes led him to choose to study dermatology. He was successful in the competitive match to complete his Dermatology residency at The University of Alberta, receiving multiple awards for scientific presentations and competencies. During his residency he held numerous leadership roles contributing to the program as co-chief resident and as a resident representative for the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery.

Dr. Shahbaz specializes in medical, procedural and cosmetic dermatology. He enjoys treating patients of all ages and skin types. He is a strong advocate for patient education and proactively counselling patients in the treatment and management of their skin diseases. He treats all common skin conditions such as skin cancer, acne, psoriasis, and atopic dermatitis.

He is an advocate to not only his patients but also the field of dermatology. He has contributed and is up to date on many new advances in the treatment of skin diseases that are evidence-based. He has presented and attended numerous international dermatology conferences, society meetings and has authored over a dozen peer reviewed evidence-based publications in international dermatology journals, books and online material.

Dr. Shahbaz is a member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), American Society of Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS), American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS), Skin of Color Society (SOCS), Texas Dermatological Society (TDS), Texas Medical Association (TMA), American Medical Association (AMA), and the Travis County Medical Society.
