popular male cosmetic treatments

While females made up the majority of all patients undergoing cosmetic treatments in the United States in 2020 (87% of all cosmetic procedures as reported by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons), an increasing number of men are turning to plastic surgery and minimally invasive cosmetic procedures to improve their appearance.

This upward trend of males seeking cosmetic care has been the case in Austin as well, as growth in the number of male patients at our practice has increased year-over-year.

While the reasons for men seeking cosmetic enhancements may differ from person to person, one thing is evident: overall demand continues to rise.

These are some of the most commonly requested cosmetic treatments from male patients:

Botox

Botox (sometimes referred to as “Brotox” for men) is one of the most popular non-surgical cosmetic treatments on the planet, and for good reason. This neurotoxin corrects lines and wrinkles on the forehead and crow’s feet by reducing the contractions of wrinkle-causing muscles. More men, especially baby boomers, are undergoing Botox.

Kybella

Nearly 68% of all adults experience issues with submental fullness (i.e. a double chin). A double chin often disrupts facial symmetry and results in an unwanted older and heavier look.. We’ve seen more men opt for Kybella, a non-surgical treatment that is approved by the FDA for treating double chins. Kybella works by rapidly destroying targeted fat cells in the treated area.

Body Contouring

Men, just like women, want to maintain a healthy and toned physique. Today there are numerous body contouring treatment options, both surgical and non-surgical, with the ability to reduce fat and tighten the body. Men are showing great interest in body contouring treatments like SmartLipo and CoolSculpting.

Gynecomastia (Male Breast Reduction)

Sometimes male breast tissue can become more prominent due to reduced male hormones (testosterone) or increased female hormones (estrogen).  Men suffering from this condition may experience various aesthetic concerns ranging from a chest that resembles female breasts to enlarged “puffy” nipples.  Male breast reduction surgery can correct these issues and result in a chest contour that is more proportional to the rest of the body.

Miradry

Millions of men across the United States experience excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) that can affect nearly every aspect of their life. MiraDry is a great laser-based procedure that treats excessive sweating by eliminating overactive sweat glands.  MiraDry can also be used to treat sweating of any degree (not just hyperhidrosis) to eliminate the need for deodorant.

Hair Restoration

One of the most common aesthetic concerns of men relates to hair loss or hair thinning. Technically referred to as alopecia, hair loss can result from a number of causes including genetics (such as in male pattern baldness), poor nutrition, or stress. There are a number of hair restoration treatment techniques (surgical and non-surgical) that can successfully treat hair thinning and hair loss including hair transplant surgery.
