tattoo removal FAQ

How does PiQo4 remove tattoos?

The PiQo4 tattoo removal laser uses a combination of nano and pico energy to create an intense photomechanical effect that shatters the target ink into tiny particles that are easily eliminated by the body, while leaving the surrounding tissue unheated.

How many treatments are needed?

There are many different factors, including age of the tattoo, location, size, and type of ink/colors used, that determine the total number of treatments required for complete removal (see this blog post to learn more). Most traditional tattoo removal lasers often require 20 or more treatments to completely remove a tattoo. PiQo4 treatments can often clear tattoos in about 8 to 12 treatments. Keep in mind that every person and tattoo is unique and some might require more while others require less.

How long do I have to wait between treatments?

While each person is unique in terms of recovery time, PiQo4 treatments must be spaced out about 6-8 weeks apart. This time between treatment sessions is necessary to help the body properly heal and remove ink particles.

Will my tattoo be completely removed?

In most cases we are able to completely remove the tattoo. However, there is a chance that a tiny amount of pigment may be left in the skin (commonly called “ghosting”). Microneedling and Fraxel treatments can be used to improve the appearance of the skin.

Are results noticeable after each treatment?

Most clients will notice a degree of lightening after their first treatment. However, it is not uncommon for tattoos to appear darker immediately after the treatment and begin to fade 14-21 days later.

Is it possible to lighten my tattoo (for a cover-up)?

If you are considering covering an old tattoo with a new tattoo your artist may suggest undergoing laser tattoo removal to lighten/fade the old tattoo. Often, this makes the process of doing a cover up easier and provides a better end result. In this case fewer treatment sessions will be necessary to lighten the tattoo.

Can I have only part of my tattoo removed?

Yes, depending on the tattoo it may be possible to isolate and remove a specific portion rather than the full tattoo.

Is laser tattoo removal painful?

While each person tolerates pain differently, most patients say they experience mild/moderate discomfort similar to having their skin snapped with a rubber band. There is no pain or discomfort once the treatment is finished. We use different ways to mitigate pain such as topical numbing, injectable lidocaine, and cold air.

Is scarring possible?

Unlike traditional nanosecond lasers, the PiQo4 laser focuses its energy on the pigment and not surrounding skin. Thus the potential for scarring is minimized. However, depending on the patients skin tone there may be a possibility of hypopigmentation or hyperpigmentation. This issue will be covered during your initial consultation.

What should I do before my treatment?

Before your treatment make sure to shave any hair, fully wash the skin, and avoid using any lotions or body glitter. Also avoid tanning and spray tans in the area you are desiring tattoo removal. Wear comfortable clothing so your tattoo is easily accessible. We also recommend eating a few hours prior to treatment.

What should I do after my treatment?

Follow these post procedure instructions to help the skin heal after your procedure.

Are consultations free?

We do offer free consultations, which include an estimation of the total number of treatments required and total cost for removal.

How much will laser tattoo removal cost?

The total cost for tattoo removal depends upon the size of your tattoo and the total number of treatments required for removal. Since every situation is different, the only way to get an exact quote on cost is to come in for a free consultation.

Is financing available?

Yes, we offer finance plans for tattoo removal packages. Financing allows patients to split the cost of a removal package over 6 or 12 smaller monthly payments. Contact us today to learn more.
